Why use a flange bolt instead of a bolt and washer?
The flange is forged as part of the head, so the bearing area is always there and always concentric. That speeds up assembly, removes a loose part, and avoids the washer being dropped or doubled - one reason flange bolts are widely used in automotive and production assembly.
Are serrated flange bolts available?
Yes - flange bolts are available with plain or serrated flange faces. The serrations bite into the mating face to resist loosening, at the cost of marking the surface. State plain or serrated when you enquire.
