What is a Philidas Turret nut?
The Philidas Turret nut is an all-metal self-locking nut with a raised cylindrical (turret) section above the hexagon, which houses the slotted locking feature. The locking action is metal-to-metal, with no insert.
How does the locking action work?
Slots in the turret section let it act as a spring set slightly inward of the main thread, so it grips the bolt thread as the bolt passes through. The grip strongly resists vibration loosening and is not limited by the temperature constraints of a polymer insert.
What is the difference between the Philidas Turret and Industrial patterns?
Both lock the same way through a slotted, sprung section; the Turret pattern carries the locking feature in a taller turret above the hexagon, while the Industrial pattern keeps a standard hexagon profile. Which one a drawing calls for is usually set by height and clearance.
