Materials & strength

All-metal crown locking

The slotted crown grips the bolt thread by spring action, giving vibration resistance without an insert.

Frequently asked

What is a Philidas Industrial nut?

The Philidas Industrial nut is an all-metal self-locking nut of standard hexagon profile, with a slotted locking crown at the top of the nut. The locking action is metal-to-metal, with no insert.

How does the locking action work?

The slotted crown section is set slightly inward, so it grips the bolt thread by spring pressure as the bolt passes through. The grip strongly resists vibration loosening and is not limited by the temperature constraints of a polymer insert.

What is the difference between the Philidas Industrial and Turret patterns?

Both lock the same way through a slotted, sprung section; the Industrial pattern is the standard-profile hexagon nut, while the Turret pattern has a taller cylindrical (turret) upper section housing the locking feature. Which one a drawing calls for is usually set by height and clearance.
