Thick-pattern nylon insert
The taller body gives more engaged thread than the thin DIN 985 pattern, combined with the same nylon insert locking action.
Steel grades 8 & 10
Property class 8 is the usual mate for grade 8.8 bolts, with class 10 used against 10.9 bolts so the nut matches the bolt strength.
Stainless steel A2 & A4
A2 gives good general corrosion resistance; A4 adds molybdenum for improved resistance to chlorides and marine atmospheres.
What is a DIN 982 nylon insert nut?
DIN 982 is the thick-type nylon insert locking nut: a taller body than the common DIN 985 thin pattern, with the same friction-locking nylon collar. The extra height gives more engaged thread where the application or drawing calls for it.
When would I choose DIN 982 over DIN 985?
Choose DIN 982 where the drawing specifies the thick pattern or where the taller body and greater thread engagement are wanted; DIN 985 is the more commonly specified pattern for general work and space-limited assemblies. Both lock the same way through the nylon insert.
Are DIN 982 and DIN 985 interchangeable?
The standards are closely related, although dimensional differences exist - the DIN 982 nut is taller than the DIN 985 nut of the same size. If your drawing specifies one pattern, send us the requirement and we can identify the appropriate product.
How does the nylon insert lock the nut?
The bolt presses into an unthreaded nylon collar at the top of the nut, and the collar grips the thread flanks. That friction gives strong resistance to the nut rotating loose under vibration or dynamic loading.
