The washer-like flange spreads the clamping load, and its serrations grip the mating surface to resist vibration loosening.
Steel grade 8 & stainless A2/A4
Grade 8 covers general and automotive-style bolting; A2 and A4 stainless cover corrosive environments, with A4 preferred for chloride or marine exposure.
What is a DIN 6923 flange nut?
DIN 6923 covers hexagon nuts with an integral flange that acts as a built-in washer face. The serrated version adds locking teeth on the underside of the flange.
Do I still need a washer with a flange nut?
The flange spreads the load over a larger area, so in many assemblies it does the job of a separate washer and saves a part in the joint. Where the mating surface is soft or slotted, a washer may still be specified.
How do the serrations work?
The teeth on the flange face bite into the mating surface as the nut seats, giving strong resistance to rotating loose under vibration; performance depends on the mating surface and preload. They can mark the surface, so where the finish matters a plain-flange nut or washer may be preferred.
