What is a DIN 1587 dome nut?

DIN 1587 is the standard high-form hexagon dome (cap) nut. The closed dome covers the exposed bolt end, giving a neat finish and physically protecting the thread from damage; corrosion resistance comes from the nut material and finish rather than the cap itself.

Where are dome nuts used?

Anywhere an exposed bolt end needs covering - railings, guarding, furniture, vehicle and plant trim. The dome improves appearance, keeps dirt off the thread and covers a sharp thread end where people may come into contact with it.

How long can the bolt be under a dome nut?

Choose the bolt or stud length so the end does not contact the inside of the dome before the nut has clamped the joint; the internal thread length in the table is the working figure. A bolt that bottoms in the cap can hold the joint loose even though the nut feels tight.
