DIN 1481 Slotted Spring Pins (ISO 8752)
DIN 1481 (ISO 8752) · Slotted spring pin

We supply slotted spring pins to DIN 1481 / ISO 8752 in carbon spring steel and stainless steel. The metric size series runs from 1mm to 16mm diameter; stainless coverage spans 1.5mm to 10mm in lengths from 4mm to 100mm. Rolled from strip to a diameter slightly over the hole size, the pin compresses on insertion and grips the hole by its own spring force.

Also known as: roll pin, tension pin, slotted roll pin, spring tension pin, iso 8752, bs en 28752, din 1481.

Materials & strength

Fits a plain drilled hole

The hole is drilled at the pin's nominal diameter to normal drilling tolerance - no reaming. The pin's free diameter is larger than the hole, so driving it in loads the slot and the spring grip does the rest.

Reusable and vibration resistant

The spring action keeps the pin loaded against the hole wall, compensating for wear in the mating parts and resisting loosening under vibration. Pins can be removed and refitted.

Combination fitting for higher duty

Where extra shear capacity is needed, a smaller pin can be driven inside an already-fitted pin with the two slots facing opposite ways, doubling the wall section in the joint.

Chamfered ends

One or both ends are chamfered to start the pin squarely in punched, drilled or cast holes.

Frequently asked

What hole size does a slotted spring pin need?

Drill at the nominal pin size - a 6mm pin goes into a 6mm drilled hole. The recommended hole band for each size is in the table on this page; standard drilling tolerance is acceptable.

Slotted or coiled - which spring pin should I use?

Heavy-duty slotted spring pins (DIN 1481 / ISO 8752) generally offer a higher shear rating than standard-duty coiled pins of the same diameter — but heavy-duty coiled versions (ISO 8748) are also available where a coiled pin is preferred. Send us your load requirement and we can confirm the right pattern.

Can slotted spring pins be plated?

Yes, but electro-plated spring pins need a de-embrittlement treatment after plating to reduce the risk of hydrogen cracking. Stainless pins avoid the issue where corrosion resistance is the aim.

Which stainless grade are these pins?

Stainless steel versions are available in austenitic or martensitic grades — send us your requirement if a specific grade or corrosion specification applies.
