DIN 1444 Headed Clevis Pins (ISO 2341)
Headed clevis pins are the standard pattern for fork and linkage joints - the head stops the pin at one face and a single retainer at the other end completes the assembly. We supply them in mild steel zinc plated, available across a range of sizes.
Also known as: clevis pin with head, headed clevis pin, fork pin, iso 2341, bs en 22341, din 1444.
Materials & strength
Head as a positive stop
The head locates the pin against one face of the clevis, so a single split pin or clip at the far end holds the joint - fewer parts and a faster assembly than the headless pattern.
Retention options
The headed clevis pin is retained at the exposed end - typically by a split cotter pin through a cross-drilled hole, while grooved versions take a circlip or push-on fixing instead.
h11 diameter tolerance
DIN 1444 headed pins are supplied to an h11 diameter tolerance. Clearance in the joint depends on both pin and hole tolerances — specify the mating-hole tolerance alongside the pin standard where a defined fit is required.
Related specificationsWhat retains a headed clevis pin?
A split cotter pin through the cross-hole is the usual method - see our DIN 94 page. Washers can be fitted under the split pin to take up end float, and grooved variants accept circlips or push-on retainers.
How does DIN 1444 relate to ISO 2341 and the BS EN standard?
The international designation ISO 2341 and its European adoption describe the same headed clevis pin, with nominal diameters from 3mm to 100mm; DIN 1444 is the related German pattern and drawings may call up any of them.
Metric or inch clevis pins for new designs?
New applications are best drawn in metric - the metric series carries the current standards backing, while inch clevis pins follow older industry practice and are matched for maintenance work.
What movement does a clevis joint allow?
Rotation in one plane about the pin axis - which is exactly what cable ends, control rods and brake linkages need. For movement in more than one plane, a ball joint is the answer instead.
