DIN 1443 Headless Clevis Pins (ISO 2340)

Mild steel zinc plated ≡ ISO 2340

Headless clevis pins connect forks, linkages and cable ends where a small amount of angular movement is needed. Without a head, the pin can be fitted from either side and retained at both ends. We supply them in mild steel zinc plated, available across a range of sizes.

Also known as: clevis pin without head, headless clevis pin, plain clevis pin, iso 2340, bs en 22340, din 1443.

Materials & strength

h11 diameter tolerance

DIN 1443 pins are supplied to an h11 diameter tolerance. The resulting clearance in the joint depends on the mating-hole tolerance as well as the pin — for a defined running fit, specify both the pin standard and the hole tolerance.

Fit from either side

With no head, the pin suits assemblies where access is one-sided or where the joint must sit flush at both faces. Retention is by split pins through cross-holes, or by circlips or push-on fixings in grooved versions.

Simple, sturdy connection

A clevis joint needs no special tooling to assemble and allows rotation in one plane - the standard answer for cable ends, turnbuckles, brake linkages and control rods.

Frequently asked

When would I choose a headless clevis pin over a headed one?

Choose a headless clevis pin where there is no clearance for a head on the entry side of the joint, where the pin must be inserted from either direction, or where both ends need positive retention with split pins or clips. A typical application is hydraulic cylinder rod-end connections, where the geometry dictates insertion from a fixed side with no room for a head. Where one face of the joint can comfortably take a head as a positive stop, the headed DIN 1444 pattern needs only a single retainer at the far end.

How are headless clevis pins retained?

Usually by a split cotter pin through a cross-drilled hole at each exposed end. Grooved versions take a circlip or push-on retainer instead.

How does DIN 1443 relate to ISO 2340?

They describe the same headless clevis pin - ISO 2340 is the international designation, also published in the European standard series, and drawings may call up any of the three.
