Materials & strength
All-metal prevailing-torque locking
The slotted, sprung upper section grips the bolt thread, so the locking action needs no insert and is not limited by the temperature constraints of a polymer insert.
Steel, stainless & brass
Mild steel covers general duties, 303 stainless and 316 (A4) stainless cover corrosive environments, and brass suits corrosion-sensitive or decorative fixings.
What is a Binx nut?
The Binx nut is an all-metal prevailing-torque self-locking nut. Slots formed in the upper part of the nut let that section flex and grip the bolt thread, giving the locking action without any insert.
How does a Binx nut lock?
As the bolt enters the slotted upper section, the segments deflect and press on the thread flanks, creating friction that strongly resists loosening under vibration. Being all metal, the locking feature is not limited by the temperature constraints of a polymer insert.
Can Binx nuts be reused?
The spring action of the slotted section can retain some grip over a small number of refits, though the locking performance reduces with use. Critical joints are usually assembled with a new nut.
What materials are Binx nuts available in?
Binx nuts are available in mild steel, 303 stainless and 316 (A4) stainless, and brass across a wide range of metric sizes. The stainless and brass options suit corrosive environments and decorative work.
